What is Cystic Fibrosis?
Cystic fibrosis is genetic disorder that damages the digestive system, lungs, and other organs of the body. In people who have Cystic fibrosis, the lungs create a thick and sticky mucus that clogs the airways making it difficult to breathe while also trapping in bacteria, leading to things like frequent infections, inflammation, a constant cough, and respiratory failure.
In the digestive system, the thick mucus can block the tubes that carry digestive enzymes from your pancreas to your small intestine. When your intestines aren’t able to completely absorb the nutrients in the food you eat, it can result in fatty stools, poor weight gain and growth especially in children, intestinal blockage, and chronic or severe constipation.
It’s important to see your doctor if you have or experience symptoms of CF and to get proper treatment.
How can Salt Therapy help those with CF?
While there is currently no cure for CF, there are many treatments and therapies that can help someone with CF to stay healthy and live a fulfilled life. Salt therapy is one of those treatments that can help break up mucus in the lungs and allow for more air in the airways so the person can breathe better. This alternative form of healing has been proven effective in helping to relieve symptoms associated with CF.
When sitting in our Salt Cave, a machine called a Halogenerator grinds up pharmaceutical grade salt into microscopic pieces and then is dispersed throughout the dry room. As you inhale the salt, it travels into the lungs and helps to break up the mucus in the airways and calms inflammation. Because of its natural antibacterial properties, it also helps to prevent infection or treat those recovering from an infection.
Of course, a person with CF should always consult with a physician before trying alternative treatment methods, but salt therapy has increasingly become a popular natural treatment for those with CF and helping to lessen their symptoms.
